Look Beyond The World Cup At The Poverty
Volunteering in Tanzania is not some new phenomenon. People have been volunteering abroad for over 50 years now. Whether it’s volunteering in Arusha or volunteering in rural Africa there is something for everybody. Africa is not only the poorest continent in the world but it is also one of the most populated with over 1 billion people living there. The continent already receives aid from governments around the world but unfortunately not all the money gets spent where it should and there is a lot of corruption involved. Volunteers have been helping these communities make a change in their lives and helping where the government should of already been assisting.
The World Cup in South Africa is not only a huge step forward for the country but for the continent as a whole. It shows the outside world have put faith in Africa to hold such a prestigious event and trust them with the responsibility. There are however many problems that come with such a weight on African shoulders. Many people have been kicked out of their homes so the government can build and rejuvenate stadiums. These were very poor people in the first place and now they have nowhere to go. South Africa along with the rest of Africa are by no means well off and they need all the help they can get.
There are over 50,000 people who are volunteering for the world cup in South Africa. However this is not isolated by any means as there are volunteers all over Africa from Tunisia in the north to Namibia in the south there are people helping to change lives everyday. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to increase your motivation to help change, you become inspired by what you see and you have a sudden burst of self-esteem. It is a phenomenal activity to get into and will hopefully change the face of travel one day.
