To you and me that means that Motorola on Thursday announced (at Techmeme) its touchscreen CLIQ smartphone, running on the Google Android platform with a skin it calls “Motoblur.”

The handset will be available on T-Mobile in time for the holiday season. Internationally, it will be called “DEXT” and appear on Orange, América Móvil, and Telefónica.

The CLIQ should be available totally in America and from T-Mobile later Q4.

MOTOBLUR mechanically delivers these updates to the home screen in easy-to-view streams so there is not any need to open and close different mobile applications to stay alongside of the most recent content.

CLIQ also includes multitasking capabilities and one-touch access to the Google mobile services millions use each day, including Google Search by voice, Google Maps with Street View, YouTube and Picasa.

It also mixes instant messaging support for Google Talk, as well as AOL, Yahoo. T-Mobile’s 3G network is currently available in two hundred towns across the nation and covers more than 150 million folks. By the end of 2009, T-Mobile USA expects its 3G network to be available to roughly 2 hundred million folks across the States.

Now that’s pretty impressive, and one wonders whether we have a new “iPod” phone phenomenon on its way from Europe. Only time will tell. However, I for one will be keeping a look out for one in the next store I can see one.
